The Short Version

Use Shelvd to catalog and manage your books. Do not misuse the service. Your collection data remains yours. Shelvd's software remains ours.

Agreement

By creating an account or using Shelvd, you agree to these terms.

If you do not agree, please do not use the service. You can export your data before leaving whenever export is available to your account.

What Shelvd Is

Shelvd is a web-based collection management tool for books, especially physical copies, rare books, antiquarian books, provenance, condition, and valuation history.

We provide cataloging, search, collection management, import, export, and related workflow tools.

We do not provide financial advice, legal advice, professional authentication, or independent book valuations.

Your Account

You need an account to use Shelvd. Use a working email address and keep your login details secure.

You are responsible for

Keeping your login credentials secure

Everything that happens under your account

Using one account for one collector or organization

We are responsible for

Protecting the service with reasonable care

Keeping the app available as far as reasonably possible

Reading and responding to support and bug reports

Your Data

Your collection matters, so the ownership line is simple.

Your book data belongs to you.

Your catalog entries, provenance records, notes, valuations, tags, images, and collection metadata remain yours. Shelvd does not claim ownership over them.

You can export your data.

You can export your available data in supported formats such as CSV, Excel, or JSON.

You can delete your account.

You can delete your account. We will remove associated data according to our privacy policy and legal obligations.

Acceptable Use

You may not use Shelvd to:

Do anything unlawful or abusive

Access or attempt to access another user's data

Upload malicious code, viruses, or harmful content

Scrape, crawl, or systematically extract service data

x

Send spam or unsolicited communications

x

Impersonate another person or entity

x

Deliberately degrade the performance or security of the service

If you violate these terms, we may suspend or terminate your account. We will try to warn you first unless immediate action is needed.

Intellectual Property

Ours

The Shelvd name, software, design, code, documentation, and creative materials belong to Simplinity / Bruno van Branden unless stated otherwise.

Yours

Everything you enter into Shelvd remains yours, subject to the rights you grant us to operate the service.

Libraries

Data retrieved from library lookup services remains subject to the terms and rights of those institutions.

Service Availability

We aim to keep Shelvd available and reliable, but we do not promise perfect uptime.

Servers, networks, dependencies, and human judgment can fail. We fix issues as quickly as we reasonably can.

We may take the service offline for maintenance and will try to give advance notice where practical.

Limitation of Liability

This is the unavoidable legal section.

Shelvd is provided as is and as available. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Simplinity / Bruno van Branden is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of data or profits.

Our total liability for all claims is limited to the amount you paid for Shelvd in the twelve months before the claim, unless applicable law requires otherwise.

Nothing in these terms limits statutory rights that cannot legally be limited, including mandatory EU consumer protection rights.

Pricing and Payment

Shelvd may offer free and paid plans. Paid features, prices, billing periods, and taxes will be shown before purchase.

When paid tiers are available:

Prices will be clearly displayed before you commit

You can cancel a paid subscription according to the cancellation flow

+

We do not use hidden fees or automatic upgrades

+

Refund rules will be shown with paid plans where applicable

Early Access users keep invite-code benefits until the relevant benefit period expires.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we will:

Update the date at the top of the page

Notify active users by email for material changes

+

Give reasonable time to review material changes before they take effect

+

Keep the current version available at this URL

Continued use after changes take effect means you accept the updated terms.

Termination

By you

You can stop using Shelvd and delete your account. Export your data first if you want to keep a copy.

By us

We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these terms, create risk for other users, or use the service unlawfully.

Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of Belgium and applicable European Union law.

Any disputes will be subject to the competent courts in Belgium, unless mandatory consumer law gives you another forum.

Severability

If part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect as far as legally possible.
